KTYF (part two)

Andrew immediately dropped everything he had and bolted into the living room only to find his best friend trembling under a table. Just as he approached the brown and white German hound, the agonizingly "Andrew!!" shout echoed again and he followed its trace outside the yard. He met a sea of bemused and shocked faces, still increasing by the minute, fixated at something on the road. The crowd was so huge they enclosed whatever was going there. Andrew lost himself to his mind again, not to attack but to prayer. Dear God please don't let it be Mom, please don't let it be Mom. Please don't let it be Dad or Caitlyn. Please Father God, please!. A third shout kicked him out of his trans and he ran to the crowd, squeezed himself through and broke its chain as people started moving back to give him way. "Andrew!", he heard again, but it wasn't loud this time. This time it was a weeping cry of sorrow; defeated and hopeless. It came from his mother who was kneeling on the floor crying with her blouse lightly painted in blood. She finally sat flat on the street, her arms nursing half of a bloody body while she seemed to be in search of something. It took a while for Andrew to process what was going on; his mother's hands gloved in blood attending to a body he's not familiar with, Caitlyn was no where to be seen, people were crying, being hysterical and he didn't know what to do until he saw a leg protruding just behind his sitting mother. He slowly walked around her and saw his brother's body, half dead and in a pool of blood. Andrew calmly instructs a little boy in the crowd to call the ambulance and then flips in his absence, "How the fuck is it possible that more than 30 rational elders are standing around here and nobody thought to call the ambulance? It's like I'm dealing with children out here."

"We don't know what happened, I just heard gunshots and saw a black City Golf speed away.", said a voice in the crowd.

"My brother," as Andrew approached the voice, "will you do me a favour and call the police immediately. Tell them exactly what you saw and take a witness with you if you need to."

"I'll contact you once I finish Mr Majola."

Andrew then attended to his brother until the ambulance came, still scolding and instructing the crowd to get to the bottom of it. After they came, he climbed into the ambulance with his mother and started asking the serious questions. "Ma, what really happened?" "I.... I don't know boy. One thing I heard children laughing and playing, the next I heard about 3 to 4 gunshots. I met them both on the floor in pools of blood." "Who's the little boy?" "I don't know, some boy that Thomas looks after here and there. You know, buys his groceries and gives him money from time to time. Eunice's son from behind the street." she explains tiredly. Andrew needed no further answers when he heard about the boy. He knew that Thomas was using the boy for his dirty political agendas, he was like his little stooge. Thomas always had himself one of those at least every second year. Andrew's only brother is a lawyer by profession, he represents the government, it's political party and other huge political figures affiliated to the party. His father, Alfred Majola, was also a very prominent lawyer in addition to being a very ardent civil activist. Think of him as the Johnnie Cochran of his time and country. Thomas admired the way his dad practiced and Andrew admired what his mother was doing so he decided to become a surgeon, just like Mrs Majola. When they arrived at the hospital and all the paperwork was sorted out, one thing immediately jumped into Andrew's mind; Caitlyn? "Ma, where's Caitlyn? I haven't seen her since I went to the toilet at home.", he asked. "I don't know sweetie. Eddy took her upstairs when the gun shots went off. I don't think she was comfortable at all." "Eddy took her upstairs? Why wasn't Eddy outside helping you? Your son was shot for crying out loud!" "Watch your tone young man. I don't have the energy to debate with you today, now more than ever. You just go home and figure out where your little girlfriend is and I'll call you when I need you.", she said as she patted his chest. He kissed her on the cheek and sped off.

As Andrew approached the Majola household driveway, he noticed that his brother's car was moved from it's original position before they left. He found it extremely suspicious and his curious nature held him down in the car for about five minutes trying to figure out how and why the car was moved. The sound of rain switched his train of thought onto another track as he watched the rain wash the blood stains away. What nonsense did you get yourself into this time Ou boet? Andrew threw on his coat and dashed into the house.

"So I don't know if it's politics again but that squueza of yours is quite the character. He lives his life too fast for me. It's as if he's overwhelmed by some force or another. D'you know what I mean?.............But you're awfully quiet darling, you sure you okay?", a clean deep voice uttered.

"Mr Ghani, I'm fine. I just need to speak to Andrew please.", said Caitlyn sternly.

"You speak of the devil and he shall arrive. How's Thomas doing, Andrew?", Eddy asked in his usual strange tone.

"They're fine. Why are you here alone with my woman when yours is alone at a hospital praying for her son?", he approached Caitlyn and kissed her on her forehead, "You okay babe?"

A gentle voice responded, "I just really want to get out of here. I'm not feeling well."

"Okay, take the ca...", Andrew's phone rang and he answered it quickly. "Talk...... How much?...........Where was this?...........Okay thanks, I'll be there in about three hours or so. Baby, take the car keys and I'll be there in five.", Caitlyn grabbed the keys and her coat and left the front door open as Andrew pushed Eddy to the side.

"You're not serious, are you?",
